This is an excellent opportunity for qualified individuals to advance within the Department while continuing to play a vital role in maintaining the safety and security of our facility.
As a Correctional Corporal, you will serve as a key member of our security team, providing custody, control, supervision, and daily care of adults in custody (AICs). This role is essential in upholding the mission of the Department by ensuring a safe, secure, and rehabilitative environment for both staff and individuals in custody. You will be responsible for supervising AICs in various areas, including housing units, control points, program and work assignments, and designated security areas. Maintaining order enforcing institutional rules will be a critical aspect of the role, along with responding to emergencies and critical incidents with professionalism and sound judgement. You will also assist in training and mentoring staff.
This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
You must be a current ODOC Correctional Corporal employee to be considered for a lateral transfer request. Lateral transfer requests are posted by institution. If you are interested in applying to multiple locations, please apply to each additional job announcement.
Employees requesting a lateral transfer by voluntary demotion from a higher security series classification can do so from this announcement. You must be currently DPSST certified to request a lateral.
Your request will be maintained in Workday and will be considered active:
• until the employee successfully transfers,
• until the employee withdraws the application,
• until the employee terminates employment from ODOC,
• employee did not respond to an interview request, or
• until two years from apply date per ODOC policy.

Constant exposure to adult male and female AICs within a prison setting. Exposure to emotionally and mentally unstable and deviant behaviors within the work environment on an on-going basis. Rotating shifts/positions of a 7 day/24-hour operation. Mandatory overtime. Participation on riot squads or tactical teams. Searches of unclothed AICs. Collecting urine samples. Some travel and hospital supervision. Perform continuous physical activity which may include bending and standing for prolonged periods.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
