Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES: OpenKyber has a client that is seeking a Junior Platform Engineer (DevOps) for a remote role. This is a six-month contract assignment with the option of conversion to FTE based on performance.

Summary: We are seeking a hands-on Junior Platform Engineer with a strong DevOps and automation mindset to support a modern, cloud-native environment. This role works closely across infrastructure and application teams to improve deployment workflows, system reliability, and operational visibility. The ideal candidate has early-career experience working in AWS-based environments, supporting containerized workloads, and contributing to CI/CD pipelines. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their platform engineering or DevOps skill set in a collaborative, production-focused environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting and enhancing CI/CD pipelines to improve deployment reliability and consistency
  • Automating operational tasks to reduce manual effort through scripts, runbooks, and self-service tooling
  • Assisting with the maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of cloud and container environments (AWS and Kubernetes, including EKS where applicable)
  • Partnering with engineering teams to investigate production issues and improve observability and system health
  • Contributing to infrastructure-as-code, platform standards, and technical documentation

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1-3+ years of experience in a DevOps, platform engineering, or SRE-adjacent role (flexible for strong junior candidates)
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, IAM, networking concepts, and container services (ECS or EKS)
  • Working knowledge of containers and Kubernetes concepts (hands-on experience preferred)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform preferred; CloudFormation acceptable)
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI) and basic scripting or automation
  • Ability to troubleshoot across distributed systems with strong communication and follow-through

Nice to Have:

  • Hands-on experience with Amazon EKS
  • Exposure to service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio or similar)
  • Experience using automation or AI-assisted tools to improve troubleshooting, scripting, runbooks, or pipeline workflows

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future. We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave. Note: Pay is not considered compensation until it is earned, vested and determinable. The amount and availability of any compensation remains in OpenKyber's sole discretion unless and until paid and may be modified in its discretion consistent with the law. This job is not eligible for bonuses, incentives or commissions. OpenKyber is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
